When I was in college, I had a "thing" about buying any kind of meat - not trusting myself to keep a clean enough mini-fridge to not get ill. I've come a long way, baby! I now buy all kinds of raw red meats for recipes. But never seafood. I guess it's remnants of distrusting myself to cook up something like raw seafood without getting everyone in the house ill.
Well, we tried something new, here at Leisurama: Tuna Steaks! AND they were awesome! AND they were easy! AND they were cheap!!!
Here's how we did them: we purchased two giant tuna steaks frozen from the grocery store. When we brought them home, we put them in the meat drawer in the fridge to thaw so that we wouldn't have to worry about some kind of thawing technique which would half-cook the tuna steaks.
Once thawed (ours thawed for about 48 hours) we put the steaks on foil on a baking sheet, seasoned with salt and pepper, and then topped them with the following mixture:
TOPPING FOR BROILING TUNA STEAKS
1/4 c. mayonnaise
1/2 tsp. dried dill
1/2 tsp. lemon juice
1/4 c. diced onions
In small bowl, mix mayonnaise, herb seasoning and lemon juice.
Broil until golden brown. Tuna will flake with fork if done. Do not overcook.
Ours took between 7-8 minutes (in an already-warm oven due to cooking our rolls plus, we may have overcooked the just slightly since it was our first fish-steak broiling adventure, therefore it's best to go by the golden brown / flake test than our exact times!)
So much healthier than other things we could have had. Go tuna! Delish!
